China, Morocco, & Japan: World War II with the Rabys

RBYBK

Written by Ray Fox and edited by our archivist, Jacki Wilson. This book was inspired by a WWII scrapbook.

About the author:

Ray Fox is a retired naval aviator who led many strikes against North Vietnam from USS Intrepid, CV-11, in 1967. As chief operating officer for Subsystem Technologies, Inc., he helped the Federal Aviation Administration implement advanced air traffic control software into their air traffic control system. He has a Ph.D. in human behavior.

This publication is based on a scrapbook detailing U.S. Navy Fighter Squadron Nine  from 1942-1945. Lt. Commander John "Jack" Raby commanded this squadron from its inception in 1942 until late 1944. Raby's daughter, Mrs. Lee Hual, shared the scrapbook with long-time friend Ray Fox, a retired Naval aviator. The scrapbook inspired Captain Fox to write the story of the Raby family from the late 1930s through World War II. Letters written by Jack and Marion tell of their pre-war days in China and Jack's visit to Russia before the war. The scrapbook and other personal items loaned to Captain Fox by Mrs. Hual help show the personal side of the life of a Navy family.
