Dr. Pettway will be discussing his research on the portrayal of African spirituality in the poetry of Plácido, a nineteenth-century Black Cuban author. Additionally, he will discuss Plácido's work in relation to José Antonio Aponte's 1812 Cuban uprising, and our current exhibition Visionary Aponte: Art and Black Freedom.
